Join the North American Society for the Study of Romanticism (NASSR) August 8-11, 2019, in Chicago for the 27th annual conference: Romantic Elements. We summon “Romantic elements” both as an indication of our renewed attention to matters of style and form and as a token of the long history of defining the essential characteristics of a period that is also a historical, generic, and affective disposition. We ask once again, what are the elements of Romanticism?
In the spirit of welcome the Sanctuary City of Chicago extends to its diverse residents and visitors, the organizers of NASSR 2019 invite your panel and paper proposals and look forward to welcoming you to Chicago, one of the most ethnically, racially and religiously diverse cities in the world.
Co-hosted by University of Chicago and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), conference events will be held on the East Campus of UIC, within sight of Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), just over a mile from Grant Park and Lake Michigan, and nestled among many culturally rich neighborhoods, such as Greektown, South Loop, West Loop, Pilsen, Little Italy and Chinatown. Experience some of the many wonderful elements of Chicago as we explore together Romantic Elements.
